Mohsin Mohi-Ud-Din is a Kashmiri-American whose family emigrated from Kashmir in the mid 1970s. As an academic, activist, and musician, Mohsin’s work is focused on governance and human rights issues in South Asia and MENA as well as Muslim-West relations, and educational initiatives for disadvantaged youth. In 2009, The U.S Department of State and the International Institute of Education awarded Mohsin the Fulbright Scholarship. He is currently a U.S Fulbright Ambassador for 2011 and is pursuing his Master’s degree in International Affairs at Columbia University. As a writer, Mohsin also maintains his own column for the Huffington Post.
In 2003 he self-produced a photo human rights documentary in the embattled region of Kashmir, interviewing victims of human rights abuses and Kashmiri political leaders. He has carried out advocacy efforts on behalf of Kashmir for MTV and the Kashmir Peoples Tribunal and HRW. In 2006 he carried out humanitarian work in the townships of South Africa and worked with orphans from HIV/AIDs. He recently worked for Human Rights First in the Crimes Against Humanity Program conducting international human rights advocacy for Darfur and Burma. Mohsin has received a Fulbright Scholar Award from the U. S State Department. As a Fulbright Fellow, he successfully led a music and arts initiative for street and orphans in Morocco, as well drug addicts and single mothers. His music and arts initiative is called Lollipops Crown Music and Arts Initiative, Morocco. His efforts at cultural diplomacy have earned him honors by the Asia Society and the World Islamic Economic Forum in Malaysia.
Since 2001 Mohsin has been the drummer for the Kashmiri indie rock band Zerobridge, fronted by his brother Mubashir Mohi-Ud-Din. Their music is available on iTunes and they tour regularly in America and Africa.
